Alien Quadrilogy DVD Giveaway!

Alien Quadrilogy

Timing is everything, and with my recent acquisition of the Alien Anthology Blu-ray set (which Amazon was recently selling for the insane price of $29.99!), and Ridley Scott's return to the franchise in the form of Prometheus coming our way in less than a week, I figured I might as well have a little giveaway!

Now, as I just stated, I did pick myself up the Alien Anthology Blu-ray set for a wicked good price, therefore I figured that there was no need for me to hold on to my Alien Quadrilogy DVD box set anymore. With that thought, I came to the conclusion that there is a really good chance that someone out there would love to own this set if they don't already, so why not give the bastard away?!

So here's the deal, if you would like to win yourself my slightly used (but in tip-top condition) Alien Quadrilogy box set, all you have to do is leave a comment that has something to do with the Alien franchise. You can talk about which film in the series is your favorite or least favorite; you can comment on how excited you are for Prometheus; you can even talk about how much Bishop's run-in with the Queen reminds you of your favorite Peter North film. Whatever works for you works for me, and unlike a Peter North film, the length does not matter. A few sentences will do just fine.

I will randomly pick the winner on Thursday at midnight and make the announcement on who won sometime Friday evening, just in time for the release of Prometheus

This is a stacked 9 DVD set that everyone who loves the Alien franchise should own, so leave a comment and good luck!

  1. I actually haven't seen any of the ALIEN movies in years other than RESURRECTION, and I've been meaning to catch up on them. Not necessarily because of PROMETHEUS coming up but just because I wanna see them again! In fact, I've never owned any of the ALIEN movies on any format, so I'd love to have this Quadrilogy! OMG! Is that good enough, Matt??

  2. I always dug Dan O'Bannon's stuff. I thought he was a real genius in a lot of ways. I think Alien is a prime example of that.

  3. Very excited to see Prometheus, I been wanting to watch the previous movies I wish they were on Netflix or something. The Original is the best in the series havn't seen in in years though. Anyway thanks for the chance

  4. My favorite movie in the series is the original 'Alien'. It was fascinating how it was more of a horror than a sci-fi movie, with the alien hunting and incapacitating the crew one by one. It also had some very strange sexual undertones, especially with Dallas getting stalked. I also loved (LOVED) how 'Aliens' seamlessly transferred the series from sci-fi/horror to sci-fi/action. Watching these films again (and the sequels, which I never saw!) would be awesome.

  5. My favorite is Aliens, and has been ever since I had to sneak and watch it as a kid because my dad wouldn't allow me to. Alien is a close second, but Aliens is just one of those movies that I know every word to and yet can never seem to get tired of watching.

Okay... my favorite Alien thing is in Aliens where Newt was sleeping and the alien came at her on the bed, under the bed... I still have nightmares. So I think the whole series is great, they all have something to offer up in the way of scare.

  7. I have 1-3 on VHS, and I watch them pretty frequently.  If I win this, then I won't have to worry about wearing my analog copies out.  I've always said that (aside from a little original Star Trek now and then) I only really like sci-fi when there's some horror mixed in, and that's never been done more effectively than it was in this series.

  8. sadly, i think i owned several of Kenner's Aliens action figures before i ever saw any of the films. i was also terrified of the animatronic xenomorph from the MGM Studios ride when i was 8 years old. do these things make me a bad Aliens-fan?

'cause i totally read the expanded universe novels [Steve Perry, ftw] in junior high and the comics when they fought Predator/Superman/Magnus: Robot Fighter/Sonic the Hedgehog.

  9. I suppose that will do. ;) Over the past year I have rewatched all of the films except for Resurrection, but I will probably get to that one within the nest few days. I remember thinking Resurrection was okay enough when I first saw it, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it might not hold up.

Thanks for the comment, homie, and good luck!

  10. For sure, man. It's too bad he couldn't have done more work in the genre, because what he did do was pretty impacting. From what I have read of him, he was very volatile and sort of shoot himself in the foot a lot, which is unfortunate because his career suffered as a result.

Thanks for the comment, Chuck and good luck!

  11. No problem, and I wish you the best of luck!

Alien is one of my all time favorite horror films, and certainly in my top ten. If Prometheus is even half as good as Alien, then I think that it would be a decent success in my book.

  12. Wow, you haven't seen any of the sequels passed Aliens? As flawed as they are, they are both very different from each other, which is actually a good thing in my opinion. The series really has a lot of diversity with each one of its films, and I think each one has something to enjoy, even the with lesser movies.

Good luck, and thanks for the comment!

  13. Ha ha, nice! My fondest of memories as a kid was having to sneak around to watch certain movie, most of which were of the horror variety! Those films and moments have a way with sticking with ya! Thanks for stopping by and good luck!

  14. Yes, that is a great scene, and I agree that Alien 3 receives and unfair amount of hate. In all honesty, I hated it when I saw it in theaters so very many years ago, but at that time I was obviously much younger, and coming off Aliens, the expectations where a little unfairly skewed.

I very recently sat down to watch the Assembly Cut (which is included in this set!), and found it to be quite good overall. Some people could look at it as being slow, but I appreciate the tension that was being built as well as how deep the film is. Also, I think that the Ripley character is given a lot to chew on, and Alien 3 really does a great job with continuing her story. It's her film as much as it is an Alien film. My only real complaint is that some of the Alien FX do not hold up at all, which has really never been a problem with any of the previous films, but that's just a product of the time, I guess.

Thanks for the comment and I wish you all the luck!

  15. That is one of my favorite scenes in the movie, too! I think one of the best moments in that scene is when that snake Burke sees them on the camera, ignores it and then turns it off!

Hope you're doing well, man, and thanks for the comment and good luck!

  16. Nice, if you win then you will have a nice little upgrade then! I love the horror and Sci-Fi mixture myself, and I agree that there are very few films that have ever been able to hit as well as with what was done with the Alien franchise. The Fly and The Thing are are few that come to mind as well as Event Horizon. I also really enjoyed the more recent Pandorum, too.

Thanks for stopping by and good luck!

  17. No Alien fan is a bad one! I wish I could have gone on that MGM Studios ride, but the only place I ever went to in Florida is Universal, which was pretty awesome by itself. Also, those Kenner toys were pretty awesome... I would love to stumble on a few at a garage sale some time! Good luck and thanks for dropping by!

  18.  never got a chance to hit Universal. especially sad now since they shut down the Jaws attraction earlier this year. still, i'm okay with the memories of being terrorized by Aliens rather than a constantly malfunctioning shark-bot.

  19. Prometheus: Must see it!
    Alien: Classic!
    Aliens: Classic x2!
    Alien 3: Bald-headed madness!
    Alien 4: WTF?
Alien Quadrilogy DVD Set: I Want this!

  20. I was lucky enough to go on the Jaws ride when it fist opened, back in the early '90s, and it was nothing short of satisfying as far as what it delivered. But to be honest with you, I have always been incredibly afraid of sharks, and that ride only made it worse! My parents said I looked white as a ghost after I got off that thing, but shit man was it worth it!

  21. I think I am with you on all of your points here! I am in the middle of watching Alien Resurrection right now, and while I remember liking it back in the day, it's pretty terrible watching it now. I do think it's certainly fun enough, but man did Whedon miss the mark with the Ripley character. It's really unfortunate, especially the basketball scene!

Thanks Mark, and I wish you all the luck!

  22. I love my ALIEN QUADRILOGY set.  I was also thinking of picking up the new Blu-ray, but now, I'm thinking I just may want another copy of the standard def release.  18 DISCS!! Snap!

  23. I am super psyched for 'Prometheus'. Was that viral http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvXKN5Fz_OE of Michael Fassbender as the robot sick or what! There's even a Weyland Industries site, which because I am a freak I have a log-in for. Not much there, but it's cool. Anyway, I need an Alien box-set so that I can relive all of the previous films. I don't have one.

  25. Aliens scares the heck out of me but my husband loves it. It would be a great Father's day gift.

  26. Matt, there are some parts to Alien 4 that I like. The mercenaries were put together well and the casting was imaginative. Some of the Aliens FX were well done, however the birthing scene and eventual baby design suffered. Wynona Ryder was badly miscast. I'd prefer 3 before 4 if given a choice.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It sure would, and I wish you the best of luck! Thanks for entering! If you win, hopefully he won't make you watch it with him! :)

  28. Casting Fassbender as a synthetic is about as perfect as it gets, and that video is very cool, too! I haven't seen the Weyland website yet, but will have to check it out.

Thanks for the comment and good luck!

  29. You could double dutch jump rope with two Quadrilogy sets!

You should definitely pick up that BD set, Marty... it has extra extras that the DVD set doesn't!

  30. I did like the casting of the mercenaries, too, especially Ron Perlman, who is so perfectly scuzzy in that role! And the FX work is pretty solid, and I am surprised at how well the underwater stuff holds up, though I do agree that the Alien/human hybrid thing is fairly lackluster in its design.

  33. Nice, just checked out your review and am happy about the positive take you had! Also happy to hear that femininity is a part of the film's core, something that has carried the franchise with the Ripley character.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm a huge fan of the first film in particular, and I think it has something to do with Jonesy the cat. The way she hides around the corner and stares at the queen...
Besides that I love the score, one of my favorites. But best of all is the quiet terror, it really can't be topped.
So count me in, I'd love to win :)

  35. I'm wondering if Ripley's cat Jonesy might still be alive.  There's a chance he could be since he was in space for some time and who knows what effect zero gravity may have had on his life span.  I think I need to win so I can better study Jonesy's space experience.

  38. Doing good! Keeping incredibly busy blogging about things I don't care about, but those things pay money, so I cannot complain!

  39. It's funny seeing the mooch "Modell" from "Diner" playing a completely different asshole ("Carter Burke") in "Aliens". I love how he gets off'ed in the movie.

  40. The characters shooting the shit on the
Nostromo made me feel at ease before everything went to hell like a 'roach attack on a picnic.

  41. Boy does that get me excited fort he movie!

  42. Going to see Prometheus at midnight, and I'm practically counting down the hours. So excited for more Space Jockey! I was so haunted by that image in the original Alien.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh, and what a slim ball he is, too, but in such a great way! Thanks for the comment and good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh yeah, the dinner scene in particular is so casual and laid back that it's hard not to feel that same way as a viewer. That's masterful filmmaking.

Thanks for dropping by and I wish you luck!

  45. I'm very jealous of you! I won't be able to see it until Saturday, but the wait is certainly worth it, I think. I too am excite to see what the deal is with the space jockey, and that is actually one of the images that really got me pumped when Prometheus trailers started to roll in. Good luck, and enjoy the film!

  46. Much like Empire Strikes Back and Psycho, I wish I were of movie-going age (or just alive) when Alien came out, so I could have experienced the movie completely unaware.  Those early audiences had no idea what was in store, and I assume many of them believed one of the male actors would be the natural protagonist of the film.  The moments where everything gets turned on its head must have been amazing to witness without knowing generally how the movie would shake out.
